Tourism Industry Advocacy

The Hawai'i Lodging & Tourism Association and members of the Hawai'i Tourism, Business, & Community Coalition have issued numerous letters to Gov. Ige and the four county mayors on a variety of issues—most recently to urge Governor Ige to issue public health guidance to travelers rather than enacting a booster mandate to the Safe Travels program.

The letter, which is pictured below at left and can be read in its entirety here, was sent as a follow-up to a series of meetings between our organization and members of the Governor's administration. Additional letters were sent to the mayors of each island requesting their consideration and support. (Please click the images at right to view the letter sent to each mayor).

Our efforts were ultimately realized when Gov. Ige announced that the Safe Travels would not require a booster shot.

HLTA Member Spotlight

Prince Resorts Hawaii recently announced the promotion of longtime hospitality executive Shigeki Yamane who will now serve as the company's president. The move comes after the departure of Kisan Jo, who has assumed the role of executive vice president of retail markets and operations at Central Pacific Bank. Previously serving as Prince Resort Hawaii's vice president of planning, Yamane brings a wealth of hospitality and executive experience to the position having worked in Japan, Canada, and Singapore.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser ran a nice article announcing the move and lauding the company for the way they have supported their team members throughout the pandemic. If you have a minute, you can read it here.

We have always enjoyed a great working relationship with our friends at Prince Resorts, and I look forward to continuing this under their new leadership. I am excited to see where Prince Resorts goes from here.

-Mufi
