Founded in 1947, the Hawai‘i Lodging & Tourism Association (HLTA) is the state's largest private organization representing member organizations within the tourism sector. As a 501(c)(6) association, HLTA is committed to supporting the industry through education, advocacy, and philanthropy.
The Charity Walk was founded in 1974 and expanded statewide in 1978. This tradition of giving is now Hawai‘i’s largest single-day fundraising event by a non-profit organization. Since its inception, more than $45 million has been raised to support hundreds of local charities throughout the state. Spearheaded by the Hawai‘i Lodging & Tourism Association (HLTA) and its non-profit arm Hawai‘i Hotel Industry Foundation (HHIF), the Charity Walk is traditionally held on the islands of Hawai‘i, Kaua‘i, Lana‘i, Maui, Moloka‘i, and O‘ahu. Money raised on each island or county stays there.
